BGSは、英国と周辺の海域を対象にした年報を出しています。2025年（英語）は327回の地震の位置を特定し、マグニチュード2以上が37回、3以上が12回、揺れを感じたものが25回でした。回数は、はっきりした傾向よりも、地域的な群発地震によって上下します。47年間の記録で最も静かだったのは2016年（英語）の205回、最も多かったのは2019年（英語）の454回で、ブラックプール近くのフラッキング（水圧破砕）に関連する小さな揺れ約135回を含みます。
BGSは年末の発表で、2025年の英国ではほぼ1日に1回地震が起きた（英語）とし、市民から1,320件の「揺れを感じた」報告が寄せられたと述べました。
背景にあるもの
英国の地震のほとんどは自然のもので、古い断層にゆっくりたまる力によって起きます。ただ、人の活動も回数を増やしています。査読付きの研究（Wilson ほか、2015年、英語）によると、1970〜2012年に英国の陸域で起きたマグニチュード1.5以上の地震のうち、少なくとも約21%は人の活動、主に石炭採掘によるものでした。プレストン・ニュー・ロードのフラッキングは2019年8月にマグニチュード2.9の揺れを起こし、政府は同年11月にイングランドでのフラッキング支援を打ち切りました（英語）。この現場をもとにした研究（Schultz、Baptie ほか、2023年、英語）は、人々が受け入れられる限度を決めるのは、けがではなく迷惑や建物の被害だと示しています。
最近の事例
- 2026年9月18日：スケグネスの北東25kmの北海南部でマグニチュード3.3の地震があり、リンカンシャーの海岸で揺れが感じられました（BGS、英語）。
- 2025年12月3日：ランカシャー州シルバーデールでマグニチュード3.2の地震があり、モーカム、ケンダル、ランカスターから634件の「揺れを感じた」報告が寄せられました（BGS、英語）。
- 2025年10月20日：グレン・ライアンのピュービル近くで、数時間おいてマグニチュード3.7と3.6の地震が起き、約60km離れた場所まで揺れが感じられました（BGS、英語）。
