Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 August 2026

This policy explains what ROR Labs (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit rorlabs.io, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than the usual fog.

The short version: we do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell your data, and we do not want any more of it than we need. The main things that set cookies here are our advertising partner and, if you click one, an affiliate link.

Who we are

ROR Labs is a publisher of general-interest articles about everyday risk. Our website address is https://rorlabs.io. You can reach us at rorlabs.io@gmail.com about anything in this policy.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect what you typed, the name and email address you entered, your IP address and your browser user-agent string. This helps us detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to see whether you have a public profile picture.
  • Email newsletter. If you subscribe to new-article notifications, we collect the email address you enter and the date you subscribed. We use it for one purpose only: to tell you when a new article is published. Every message carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list. We do not sell, rent or share the list, and we do not put advertising or affiliate links in these emails.
  • Contact messages. If you write to us through the contact page or by email, we keep the message and your email address so we can reply.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Our web server records the usual technical information for every request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser and operating system. This is standard for any website and is used for security and troubleshooting.
  • Embedded content. Articles may embed content from other sites (for example a video). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, and those sites may collect data about you and set their own cookies.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. The cookies on this site fall into three groups.

  • Necessary. WordPress sets cookies if you leave a comment (to remember your name and email for next time) and our caching layer may set a cookie to serve pages faster. These are required for the site to work.
  • Advertising. Our advertising partner and its partners set cookies to serve and measure advertisements. See the section below.
  • Affiliate. If you click an affiliate link, the retailer — normally Amazon — sets a cookie on their own domain so that any resulting purchase is credited to us. We never see who you are or what you bought; we see only an aggregate count of orders.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop you seeing advertisements — it means they will be less relevant.

Advertising and Google

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertisements to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.com.
  • Google’s own handling of data is described in its privacy and terms for partner sites.

Affiliate links

This site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Clicking an affiliate link passes no personal information to us. Full details, including how links are marked, are in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. Data reaches third parties only in these ways:

  • Our hosting provider, which operates the servers this site runs on and therefore processes server logs on our behalf.
  • Our email provider, which stores the subscriber list and delivers the notification emails on our behalf. It processes your email address only for that purpose.
  • Advertising partners, as described above, through cookies set in your browser.
  • Retailers, when you choose to click an affiliate link and are taken to their site — at which point their privacy policy applies, not ours.
  • Spam filtering and Gravatar, for comments.
  • Law enforcement, where we are legally required to disclose information.

How long we keep things

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically.
  • Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with the matter.
  • Server logs are kept for a short period for security and diagnostics, then rotated out.
  • Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. After that your address is removed from the active list.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Email rorlabs.io@gmail.com and we will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

  • If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Where we rely on consent — for advertising cookies — you may withdraw it at any time through your browser or the opt-out links above.
  • If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Advertising cookies may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; the opt-out links above are the mechanism to stop it.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and kept up to date. No website can promise perfect security, but we do not store payment details or account passwords, so there is very little here worth stealing.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be noted on the site.
